Sam was really not sure that this was a good idea. Yes, he knew that he couldn't always keep it a secret that he and Gabriel were in love, but really? Coming out to their parents? That was not like talking to their friends. And that had been hard enough.

Really hard enough, and he really didn't plan on doing it anytime soon again. Thank you. Well, there was no need too since they were now officially out of the closet for all the school to know. And with 'they' Sam meant him and Gabriel, as well as Dean and Castiel. Yes, both he and his brother were dating Novak kids. And that was enough for a hell of a lot of rumors and talks around school.

But no one had been stupid enough to openly mock them or try to bash them for being gay. One reason for that was Dean and his rep for having one hard blow and even the football players tried not to mess with him.

Then there was Gabriel. And Sam really didn't know if he should take pride in the fact that his boyfriend was known and feared as the king of pranks among his fellow students, but it kept him safe. Well, not that he couldn't protect himself since his brother had taught him how to fight and Castiel himself wasn't so innocent either, but it was mostly the reputation of his brothers that had kept them out of trouble.

And with the way the situation was for gay people right now... They really were lucky. But with the decision to come out to their friends they had also decided to come out to their parents. A thing that was much harder – at least that was the way Sam saw it.

He had even tried to find out what his father thought about gay people by talking with him about the Stonewall riots that had taken place a few months back, but all the answers he had gotten were quite gruff and nonchalant so nothing he could really work with.

But still, now there was no way back! Rumors would spread quickly, it was only a matter of time until his parents heard the news from someone else and Sam really didn't want it to happen that way. They really had to talk to them, which was something he didn't look forward to in the least.

“You look like the world's about to end.” Gabriel commented, his face hovering inches over Sam's, his typical smirk right in place. “Or maybe you just got told that you've got an A- in one of your courses.”

Sam huffed and shoved at Gabriel’s chest, making him fall back on the bed and grumble silently. “Shut up Gabe.” he growled, mostly to himself, actually sorry that Gabriel was the one that had to be the target of his anger and fear. But his boyfriend knew what was going to happen this evening and hey, he had every right to be a bit bitchy. “At least your dad is really laid back about all of this.”

Gabriel huffed, but it was true. They had decided to talk to Chuck – Gabriel's and Castiel's father – first because it had seemed that he would be the easier one to talk to and they had been right. They hadn't even been able to finish the well learned speech because Chuck had cut him off, telling them he was okay with it and they should do whatever made them happy.

Gabriel chuckled and flopped down next to Sam, his fingers playing with the hair of his boyfriend. Even though Gabe was always complaining about his long hair Sam knew for a fact he actually liked it – a lot. “Stop worrying darling.”

God Sam hated it when he called him darling! Okay, he hated it as much as Gabriel hated his hair. But still he had to keep up the appearance so he rolled his eyes and poked Gabriel in his side, right where he knew he would be ticklish. He was rewarded with a yelp that made him grin and only a second later Gabriel was all over him, getting his revenge by tickling the youngest Winchester like mad.

Sam was laughing and rolling around under Gabriel skilled fingers, gasping for air. He had tears in his eyes because Gabriel made him laugh so hard. A short yelp escaped him when suddenly the door opened and Dean stood in the doorway, grinning at both of them in a way that suggested he had much dirtier fantasies than what was appropriate for your older brother. “Jesus, aren't you supposed to study or something?”

Gabriel laughed and threw a pillow in Dean’s direction. He would have hit him straight in the face if Dean hadn't ducked. “We didn't nearly fail last year.” he insisted, making Dean cringe a bit and throw the pillow back at him.

“Bite me Gabriel.” he grumbled, making Gabriel laugh and Sam flinch.

“I'd rather bite Sam.” Gabriel insisted, seeming keen to show just what he meant right now, but Sam wasn't going to let that happen so he rolled his boyfriend off of himself, which led to loud protests from Gabriel and a pillow now aimed at him.

“Where's Cas?” he asked his brother to bring the conversation as far away from a fight as possible. But both Gabriel and Dean did seem to be out for a fight today and so Sam's approach was very much useless. “Has he finally gotten enough of you?” Gabriel teased, much to Sam's frustration.

“You...” Dean hissed, stalking forward, apparently to move the fight to a level he was more comfortable with.

Not that it was so uncommon for Gabriel and Dean to have an actual fist fight, but Sam wouldn't have any of it today of all days. “Stop it! Both of you!” he nearly shouted at them and that alone was enough for them to break it off, because he never actually shouted. “Today’s complicated enough without both of you screwing it up even more okay?” he hissed, rising from the bed to stalk from the room down into the kitchen.

Gabriel looked vaguely sorry as he followed Sam to the kitchen, where they also found Castiel sitting at the table, studying something that looked like Algebra. “Hey Cas.” Sam greeted him with a warm smile, while the younger Novak didn't even look up. But that was okay, they all knew Cas good enough to not be offended by that. “Little bro.” Gabriel welcomed him nonchalantly.

He followed Sam to the fridge, leaning against it as he watched Sam make them all coffee. “So we're really gonna do it?” he asked all of a sudden, his voices filled with anxiety and he hated himself for that.

But even Dean, who would have mocked him for it in any other situation, didn't comment on the fact that Sam sounded very afraid. This alone reassured Sam that he had all the reasons in the world to be afraid. Gabriel chose that exact moment to pull him into his arms, knowing – as always – when Sam got really distressed. “No backing out now Sammy.” he murmured into his ear, but loud enough for the rest to hear.

“Yeah, or do you want that awful Miss Jenkins to tell Mom and Dad how their awful sons are disgusting faggots?” Sam made something close to a very strangled noise as Dean phrased it that way, even though these were probably the exact words Miss Jenkins was going to use.

Gabriel chuckled lowly and Sam snuggled closer into him, trying to push all of his fears away, because actually, he had every reason to be afraid. This was their father after all, and he was an old soldier, Marines and all. There was no telling what he would do when not only one, but both of his sons told him they were gay and already in relationships that lasted close to a year.

He smiled briefly as he saw Dean bend down to press a loving kiss to Castiel’s head, making the younger student relax instantly. It was easy to not see Castiel’s distress since he usually kept it to himself, and a bad observer could easily overlook it because not much changed with his attitude.

But just as Gabriel always sensed when Sam didn't feel good and the other way around, it was with Dean and Castiel. And this little kiss on the top of the head was Dean's way of telling Castiel everything would be okay, that he was there for him and all the other words that were never going to be spoken by Dean Winchester because he was just not the type for emotional moments. Sam sometimes suspected he was just too proud.

He smiled while he observed the tender moment between his brother and Gabriel’s brother. Gabriel’s arms had tightened around him and Sam pressed closer to him just as Castiel tipped his head back, looking up at Dean. The kiss on the head was followed by one on the top of his nose, than a chaste kiss to Castiel’s lips followed.

Their father chose that moment to drive down the gateway and park his car in front of the garage. Suddenly there was nearly a meter between Gabriel and Sam and the younger Winchester smiled apologetically at his lover. Dean pressed a last, reassuring kiss to Castiel’s hair as the Novak looked down at his homework again; probably to calm him down a bit more since Castiel was probably as nervous about the whole deal as Sam himself. Then he put a sufficient span between himself and Castiel and decided to inspect the interior of the fridge, probably trying to look normal.

Well, hopefully after today’s evening they could openly show themselves around the Winchesters house, but Sam wasn't sure he should hope for too much with his Dad. So he tried to keep his expectations low and keep calm at the same time. Freaking out wouldn't do anyone any good. Well at least not right now.

He could freak out later, after they told John and Mary, but right now he would be happy if he wasn't thrown out of the house. Because even after the Stonewall riots he knew it really wasn't that unlikely for that to happen.
